OTP Bank promotes equality of opportunity together with UN Women

Gender equality is an integral part of OTP Bank culture. We use policies and instruments that ensure non-discriminatory treatment, promote the inclusion of women in business, and see continuously high rates of female participation, 78% of employees and 56% of managers being women.

We aim to lead in gender equality promotion in our sector. In 2022 OTP Bank was the first bank in Moldova to adopt Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). On September 26, 2023 we strengthened our commitment to promote gender equality by becoming the first bank in Moldova to sign a memorandum of understanding with UN Women during the “Bani la Feminin” (Money on Women’s Terms) conference. The aim of the memorandum is to facilitate a closer collaboration in the following areas:

- Equal access for women to secure financial instruments;
- Access to financial education;
- Capacity building in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), finance and management;
- Gender equality advocacy and women empowerment among employees, partners and the wider public.

“Moldova is a positive example in terms of female participation in business. There is a wave female entrepreneurship in the country that we hope to support. I would like to invite other financial institutions to join us in this effort,” said Mr. Bogdan Spuza, President of the Executive Committee - CEO, OTP Bank.

“We are glad to have OTP Bank as the first banking sector partner in gender equality promotion. We have a rich history of collaboration and certainly, today’s signing of the memorandum will lead to more knowledge sharing and policy development in support of women in Moldova,” Dominika Stojanoska, UN Women Country Representative, Moldova.

During the “Bani la Feminin” conference, the over 150 participants addressed their questions about facilities offered by OTP Bank to women entrepreneurs. Mr. Petru Delinschi, Deputy CEO - Commercial Director Retail Banking, enumerated several measures:

”One of our priorities is to contribute to the sustainable development of Moldova’s business environment. We bring to every interaction not just our financial expertise, but a gender-sensitive, caring attitude for our clients’ needs.  We understand that for the majority of women, when it comes to choosing financial services, accessibility and trustworthiness are top priorities. That is why we try to empower the public through free financial education programs. To date, over 5,000 people, men and women, from 32 raions of the country benefited from trainings conducted by OTP Bank experts through OK Financial Education Foundation.”

OTP Bank (Moldova), a subsidiary of OTP Group, is an integrated provider of universal financial services.
