Chisinau, April 25, 2024 — The Ministry of Education and Research, under the patronage of the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the European Union and development partners USAID, Sweden, Great Britain, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA and the World Bank, launches the Partnership "Moldova for Education." - a project to modernize national education.
The initiative involves the modernization of school infrastructure and the implementation of innovative educational methods through the creation of 35 model schools, one in each district of the country. The total budget of 70 million euros involves equipping classrooms, laboratories, school libraries, gyms, but also the construction of greenhouses for biology lessons, the purchase and installation of equipment for the Internet network, digital libraries, etc. To achieve the objectives, the Ministry of Education and Research launched a call to civil society, the private sector and international organizations to join the Partnership.
With extensive investment experience in the field, OTP Bank has answered the call and is taking an active role through two major initiatives. The first involves a contribution of 2 million lei for the renovation of school libraries and their transformation into multifunctional educational spaces. By providing modular furniture, individual and group learning areas, interactive learning resources and digital tools, OTP Bank aims to contribute to student well-being and create opportunities to develop digital skills, creativity and critical thinking. The second direction of intervention aims at the delivery, in partnership with the "OK" Foundation, of free financial and entrepreneurial education courses, designed to equip young people with the necessary skills to succeed in a globalized economy.
At the launch event, Elena Guzun, Vice President, Corporate Banking Commercial Director, reiterated OTP Bank's commitment: "A model school is a modern, comfortable space equipped with the latest digital tools. A space where every child can develop self-confidence, creativity and agility - essential skills for a prosperous future. We are happy to contribute to this vision together with the "Moldova for Education" community.
Annually, OTP Bank directs over 2 million lei in support of educational initiatives, including supporting the activity of the ”OK” Financial Education Foundation. From 2019 to date, this activity has resulted in a national impact: over 17,500 children, young people and adults have developed financial skills, in 30 educational institutions in 36 localities of the country. The involvement in the "Moldova for Education" project reiterates OTP Bank's commitment to invest in the future of Moldova and to contribute to the formation of a society based on knowledge, creativity and innovation.
